Story

The story of Super Metroid is relatively simple. You play as Samus Aran, an alien bounty hunter, as she fights her way through the desolate planet Zebes, in order to stop Ridley and his gang of Space Pirates. That's it in a nutshell. Well, there's a little more too it. In the previous game, Metroid II, Samus ventured to the Metroid home world to exterminate them once and for all. On her mission, she comes across a baby Metroid, who believes her to be its mother (Samus is a girl by the way). When she returns it to government scientists, it is soon stolen by Ridley and taken back to the Space Pirate stronghold on Zebes. Samus hauls ass to Zebes to take back the Metroid and kill Ridley (for good this time).

The story is told through these black and white images.

Simplistic setup that's gets you straight to the game, paramount for this type of game. Yet, there's still a decently told arc with Samus going on. She has to deal with her sworn enemy Ridley (despite fighting him already), and save the baby Metroid, who she basically treats like her own child. All of this builds up to the ending, which despite having to be told without any dialogue or narration, manages to carry quite a bit of emotional weight with it. I won't spoil it, but trust me when I say it's one of the most emotionally gripping moments in gaming.

Gameplay

A majority of Super Metroid's gameplay consists of exploring and shooting enemies. The first Metroid was very similar The Legend of Zelda, albeit in this case we're side-scrolling as opposed to having a top down perspective (but not like Zelda II, which was more like Castlevania), and the same thing applies here. You're dropped into an expansive world, and left to find your way around, searching for bosses, and finding helpful items along the way(only this time you have a map). As you explore, you'll find upgrades to your suit that allow you to reach new areas, and a more capable killing machine. Alot of times, upgrades will be hidden pretty well, so you really have to scour every room to find stuff.

You'll slowly unlock more ways to get around.
The exploration is what makes this game so damn fun. You'll just be wandering around, when out of nowhere you accidentally find a whole 1/16 of the map that was hidden, with missile and health upgrades inside. The bosses are pretty fun too. They're difficult, but they never really feel unfair, and all of them are unique and memorable, and some even have multiple methods of fighting them. But what's probably the coolest part of this game is finding out how to sequence break it. Much like Zelda, there is an order to how you're supposed to do things, but you can just as easily do it in your own order. To this day people are figuring out new ways to break the game, and beating it faster. When you beat the game, you're graded on how long it took you, and how many items you collected, wich adds considerably to the replay value.

Graphics

This game looks great. Every environment uses dark colors, wich add to the atmosphere immensley. Even outside areas are gloomy, and are constantly raining. This atmosphere really drives it home to the player that they're all alone on an alien planet.

This place is creepy as fuck.

Sound

The music in this game also adds greatly to the atmosphere, with dark, somewhat creepy background music. And when shit gets real, you'll definitely notice, because the music will get pretty intense. The contrast really makes these moment stand out in your mind, and let you know that you're in for a tough boss.

Overall

This game is really fun. I love everything about this game. This is easily one of the best games of all time, in my opinion. After you finish it, you're gonna want to play again, just to beat your record. I seriously can't imagine anyone who would't at least
kinda like it. I think every one should play this at least once. Finding it shouldn't be too hard, it's on virtual console for Wii and Wii U, and probably less than $10 on eBay, so pick it up, I urge you.

Hello World

Hello. My name is championx5, and this is my blog. I made it mostly out of boredom, and I'm a pretty boring person, so don't expect to see the marvelous exploits of my school life or anything. If you're lucky, you might see me post a horribly unfunny and unprofessional review of a video game/anime/TV show etc. I don't expect anyone to ever read this, and I  hope any one that does read it won't expect too much out of me. So that's my story, maybe I'll update this thing again by the end of the year, but don't get your hopes up...
